About the Department

The Department of Psychology at Catholic University was established in 1978 and has produced more than 3,000 graduates to date. Currently, there are 12 professors, and as of 2023, the Department of Psychology had 447 undergraduate and 108 graduate students, making it one of the largest departments at Catholic University. Psychology is the scientific study of psychological phenomena and behaviors, including human thought, emotion, and behavior. The study of psychology requires rigorous observation, experimentation, and rational reasoning, as well as a deep understanding and love for human beings. The Department of Psychology at Catholic University aims to educate students to understand and accept human beings as they are through realistic and empirical exploration of various human psychologies and behaviors, and to cultivate a scientific mindset by emphasizing experimentation and statistical verification as research methods. In 2014, the department was selected as a CK-II Metropolitan University Specialization Project, with the goal of fostering "psychology professionals who contribute to the community." In pursuing this project, various organizations in the local community organically participated, and we are still striving to realize a practice-oriented curriculum that can foster professional psychology personnel.

Academic Activities

Psychodrama

In 2022, we are continuing our 41-year tradition, with weekly meetings and annual performances. At the university, the emphasis is on self-reflection and purification of the mind rather than therapy. Psychodrama was invented by Mereno as a form of psychotherapy, but it is not aimed at anyone in particular. The plays are not scripted, but improvised, and are created by the protagonist and the audience, so that everyone can participate together.

Job Search Special Event

Once a semester, we invite graduates who are working in the field of psychology to join us. The program is designed to increase understanding and appreciation of the field and to explore real-life field experiences and what it takes to get a job or start a business.
